Hello everybody,

Two weeks ago, I brushed 10 coats of KTM-9 over 2 days on my first guitar. I started wet sanding today and I've just found out that a small spot by the rosette was sanded through the lacquer... what am I supposed to do? Sand the whole thing down and start over? Why did it happen? It is because I applied the finish too thin and because it didn't level itself as it should have?

Please help me out,

Sand the surrounding area lightly with 400P wash with DA. Drop fill or if big enough brush on 3-4 coats just larger than the area. allow to cure 3-4 days. lightly sand to level with the rest of the finish and allow to cure for 2 weeks.

You want to be sure to clean the sanding area well to avoid witness marksMichaelP39037.7083680556

Gah... getting closer and closer... then woops 2 weeks back. It's even worse on the back. Maybe I should scrap it all together and finish correctly. At least the neck and headstock are ok...

Na! this is not a problem as long as the sand throughs are not that big. Lord I have have done this more times than I can count. Spraying is a bit easer to get level coats than brushing but even then it can happen. I have gone away from wet sanding to dry sanding only starting with 320p and working my way through 800p the switching to micro-mesh 3200-1200 then power buff with extra fine mensesrna compoundMichaelP39037.7211574074
